May 10th is right around the corner, so it’s time to start planning the perfect Mother’s Day gift. While sweets and flowers are a great option, why not dedicate a three-day weekend to showing your mom just how much you appreciate her? Spend time together reminiscing and making new memories, or allow her to get away from it all by setting up a solo weekend itinerary. We’ve taken the guesswork out of planning your perfect trip by choosing our favorite eating spots, scenic walks, and unforgettable events that leave room for plenty of relaxation.
Friday: Arrival
Check in and settle in! Arrive at Cider House in the afternoon for check-in from 4-6 pm. Unpack and sit back on the porch with a cup of coffee or a bottle of wine, or stretch your legs and spend some time meeting the sheep, goats, alpacas, cows, donkeys, and yaks! With a little advance notice, have a bouquet of flowers and truffles in your room waiting for her.
For dinner, head to downtown Waynesboro for a bite at The Green Leaf Grill. With a wide selection, from burgers and steak to seafood and salads, you will both find something you love!
Saturday: Breakfast, Views, and Wine
Start your morning slowly with a gourmet hot breakfast made fresh here at Cider House using ingredients grown on the farm or sourced locally. You can expect a rotating selection of classic breakfast staples like omelets, pancakes, waffles, or muffins with scratch-made jam.
Head down the road to Sunset Park and enjoy a one-mile hike through the woods or a quarter-mile loop around the meadow with views of the Allegheny mountain range. More adventurous hikes await off Skyline drive; or just check out the views.
Sit down for lunch at Stella Bella & Lucy’s for a light refreshing bite. I’d suggest the Turkey BLT or the Quiche of the Week.
While you’re downtown visit the P. Buckley Moss gallery which has just opened for the season. Here you can view a collection of her work inspired by peaceful life in the Shenandoah Valley.
After a dinner of your choice, wrap up your night at Barren Ridge Vineyards where you can watch the sunset over the grape vines. Sit back with a wine flight and cheese plate. Take home a bottle of your favorite to savor the moment!
Sunday: Slow Morning, Flowers, and Musical Comedy
Enjoy your Cider House breakfast on the back patio as you wake up to the sounds of spring. There are plenty of fun activities to choose from on Mother’s Day. You can take a drive to Harmony Harvest Farm for a flower arrangement class. Walk the flower fields, learn the basics of flower arrangement and leave with a gorgeous bouquet! Or, stick around town and see a local community theater production of Singing in the Rain at the historic Wayne Theater. Wrap up your sweet weekend with a treat at the popular local spot, Willy’s Ice Cream, before heading home!
Your three-day weekend at Cider House Bed and Breakfast will be the perfect balance of fun, adventure, and relaxation. Whether you’re creating new memories with mom or gifting her some well-deserved alone time, we’ve made sure to include some of the best places and events loved by our locals. So, yes, pick out those Mother’s Day flowers, but let her know she also has a great weekend to look forward to!
